Roof – 2007
당시 영국살이 3년만에 처음으로 내 방을 갖게 되었는데 침대와 컴퓨터 하나를 놓을만한 작은 공간이었지만 나에게는 가장 자유롭고 넓은 작업실이자 놀이터였다. 당시 작업하던 곡들과 즐겨 부르는 노래들의 가사를 벽 빽빽히 붙여놓았었는데 그 중에 하나가 바로 roof였다. 예전 인도여행에서 적어둔 메모들을 보다가 참 이쁘지만 유치한 가사 메모가 있어서 영어로 바꾸어 붙여놓았다. 어느날 아침 일어나 기타를 잡고 무심코 연주하다 그 벽의 가사를 보며 한번에 불러낸 내 인생 최초의 레게 곡이다. 이 곡이 나오고 나서 레게로 전향하게 되었다해도 과언이 아닐만큼 큰 영감과 에너지를 준 곡이다. 2010년에 한국에서 최초로 발표한 싱글이지만 더욱 어쿠스틱한 느낌으로 편곡하여 한 버젼을 더하였다. 오리지널 버젼은 ‘아이앤아이 장단’에서 활동한 덥뮤지션 화랑이 프로듀싱을 맡아 루츠레게 사운드를 담았다. 어쿠스틱 버젼은 카혼과 퍼커션 등으로 레게 드럼 원드롭(One Drop, 흔히 루츠레게와 락스테디 음악을 들으면 들을 수 있는 리듬) 리듬을 표현했고, 킹스턴 루디스카의 오정석이 트럼펫으로 길거리 연주를 연상케 하는 느낌을 담아주었다.
